German Shepherd Soft Sculpture

Both Bones and I are big fans of the German Shepherd breed, and wanted to see if we could come up with one using our wolf cast. Didn't turn out too badly I hope!

This guy is about 17" long, and 10" high, made with ball joints and faux fur. His head and feet are cast resin, and hand painted, then sealed before being put together with the rest of him.

Unfortunately as the result of breeding for show ring "perfection", there are a number of crippling, life-shortening disorders now relatively common in GSDs. My SIL, bless her, is a fantastic advocate for responsible breeding thanks to her experience with her own dog Boomer.
Boomer's sire was a Canadian champ, and Boomer is partially paralyzed. He gets around in a wheelchair, without the use of his back legs.

Current breeding trends in some countries have resulted in an animal vastly different than the traditional working dog GSDs once were.
Our little offering to the wider world of GSD fanart was made in honour of that old style dog, the strong, healthy, loyal tradition GSD.
