Gray Wolf by WormsandBones Gray Wolf by WormsandBones
A gray wuff for :icongoiku: (who makes amazing plushies - seriously, go look).

This guy's got metallic gold eyes, and some hand dying along his cape to give him a darker stripe apart from the usual hand painting & sewing blah blah blah. :P

Do I need to go through this? You guys know how this goes anyway.

Customs made to your colour specifications like this guy are available for $225, and we also have a couple pre-made wolves for $200. Please note, prices are in CDN and don't include shipping. :)
We also warranty these little guys for life - under regular use, if anything busts we'll always fix it for ye.

That's an epic win. :la:
You guys are so good at all of these poseable figures.

Oof, $225 wouldn't be too bad if I had an amount of money near that... ^^; But I'll keep you guys in mind, because thanks to your gorgeous monsters (I love monsters) and adorable animals, I now really want to have one. :grump: X3 I'll have to collect some money.
(I hope that didn't sound rude. >.<)

He arrived today! I am so happy with him! The pictures don't do the real thing justice :D The markings are simply gorgeous and I was surprised how strong the armature feels and just how posable these dolls are. I'll be back for a fox someday.

This is adorable~ I absolutely love how you do the paws; they look good in either standing or sitting pose and are so detailed. The fur pattern reminds me of the lighter body/darker face, legs and back I've noticed on a few wolves of Alaska's Denali national park wolves :] [link] Though (disregard this if it was part of the character's design or otherwise specified by the commissioner) wolves only have dewclaws on their forefeet. It's a small thing though.

Thank you so much! I won't lie, the paws are a giant hassle and a half. That's the the part of every sculpture where we sorta run out of steam... one leg? Golden. Wait, we have to make another exactly the same but mirrored? Flip a table.

I can't seem to make that link work; maybes its a problem with that site? :/

Very true! And to be honest, we weren't trying to authentically reproduce a wolf with completely accurate anatomy/proportions - I mean look at the size of those eyeballs. That ain't normal! LOL Most of what we do is pretty stylized, and unless we're being commissioned to make something that is a PERFECT representation of something else we tend to muck about a bit with anatomy & proportions to make it a lil' more our own. Maybe should have tried to stay closer to actual wolf with this guy, but I dunno... I think the cast is if nothin' else still fairly appealing aesthetically. I hope!

All that said, we do actually REALLY enjoy doing work from skeletons - we'd both like to have more time to get into the paleolithic critters, but that's not the stuff that pays bills alas.
(Also, your wolves are LOVELY. Your sculptures have an amazing gesture and sense of weight! This :thumb191313549: also made us both cackle... because we're there ourselves right now. :/)

what makes them so expensive? is it real fur? is it really big. 200 seams over priced

We use 3 kinds of faux fur for each wolf and , they're about 16 inches long, and over 10 inches high, with close to three feet of armature inside, so yes, they're on the big side. Our focus is on quality and durability, so we use the best supplies we can find for the job. Resin customs cost roughly half of a comparable original, but because of casting costs they're actually more expensive to produce. The price difference is in the time, since we don't have to do the sculpting, but every custom still has hours of resin clean up, hand painting, sewing and assembly. We've put a lot of thought into our prices, and we feel they accurately represent the materials, time, and skill that goes into every piece.

okay. but they still seam way over priced. at the renaissance fair who have things about the same size with real fur, puppet heads, and compleatly hand crafted features. each one is compleatly unique and the ones that are about the size of your wolves are easily half the price.i mean, your carftmenship is amazing i just dont see what makes them 200 dollars

What you're describing is a woodbaby. Or, possibly, a woodbaby knockoff. I'm not going to compare our product to theirs, because frankly, there is no comparison. We've chosen different avenues to explore. What I will offer you is a link to a page on their website where they have wolves of their own, about the same size as ours, for 225$([link]). If there are people selling a similar product for less, all the power to them, it's their choice to work for free. If we offered our wolves for half the price, we'd be making them for the fun of it. If we did that with all our products, we'd literally be paying you to take them off our hands. Our time has value, and our skill has value. If our wolves are not worth 200$ to you, that's fine. There are many things in this world I wouldn't pay 200$ for. Unfortunately, this very conversation is the reason why the word "artist" has become synonymous with the word "starving." Minimum wage has long surpassed the 10$ mark, and as professionals in our field, we would be doing the Art community no favours by working for anything less.
